About this service
Understanding this service
Intensive care is designed for people who need closer observation than a routine ward can provide. Care decisions depend on the patient's vital signs, organ function and medical assessment.
When it may be needed
Severe infection, breathing difficulties, postoperative complications and other critical conditions may require ICU evaluation. The treating team decides whether intensive care is appropriate.
Before visiting
Bring referral notes, prescriptions and recent reports if available. Call for admission arrangements and bed availability; do not delay urgent treatment in an emergency.
