About this service
About this service
Echocardiography, or an echo, uses ultrasound to assess how the heart is structured and how it pumps blood.
When it is used
A cardiologist may recommend an echo for certain heart murmurs, breathlessness, suspected valve conditions or follow-up of known heart disease. It is different from an ECG.
Preparation and follow-up
Bring previous echo reports and heart medicines. Ask about appointment, preparation and who interprets the report.
